GP Heart Health Checks
From 1 April, Australians over age 45 will be eligible for a Medicare funded Heart Health Check. This is the first national screening initiative for heart disease (cardio vascular disease or CVD) which claims the lives of approximately 86,000 Australians a year.
Heart disease is the number one killer in Australia. Just like with cancer, often early prevention and intervention can be the key. By actively screening for problems, many lives can potentially be saved.
The Daily Telegraph came out and interviewed one of our GP's, Fiona Napier-Flood and our founder Tim Dugan at the Heart GP clinic in Eastgardens, about the benefits of this Government initiative and its potential positive effects on the rates of heart deaths in Australia.
Since opening our doors in January, Heart GP have come across many emergency cases. The Heart Health Check should hopefully prevent people from finding out they have a heart problem when it's potentially too late. As stated above the Heart Health Check is Medicare funded and at Heart GP we are bulk billing all patients.
